How KCSE Grading Works
How is the KCSE mean grade calculated?
Your mean grade is calculated from your best 7 subjects: mandatory Mathematics + your best language (English or Kiswahili) + your best 5 other subjects. Each grade has a point value (A=12, A-=11, ... E=1). The average of your best 7 determines your mean grade.
What is the minimum grade for university admission?
The minimum mean grade for university admission through KUCCPS is C+ (7 points). However, competitive programmes like Medicine require B+ or higher.
What are KUCCPS cluster points?
KUCCPS uses 20 subject clusters to determine eligibility for different degree programmes. Each cluster weighs specific subjects relevant to that field. Your cluster points may differ from your mean grade because they emphasise different subjects.
